SEOUL, KOREA, SONGEUN Art and Cultural Foundation unveils its new building and inaugural exhibition program today, ahead of the public opening on 30 September. The new ST SONGEUN Building aspires to become a cultural anchor to invite the public in, expressing difference and openness despite, or rather because of, its hermetic street side. The sharp triangular form, which defines the building, is cut at the base to create the main visitor entrance to the lobby, garden and gallery spaces. A column wrapped in a LED screen supports the resulting overhang and acts as an attractive lantern to announce current exhibitions and display artistic content. The building’s urban presence is further brought down to a tactile human scale through the facade’s unique wood grain texture, inviting the eye and hand to explore its different qualities.
