NORR designed Bertha Park High School to be an educational space with varied opportunities for learning and socializing in Perth, Scotland.
A deceptively simple, urbane exterior here contains a rich series of internal spaces animated by natural light. The school also enjoys a compact, sustainable and highly efficient form and it will become the focal point to a new masterplan which extends the capacity of Perth on its north-western side.
The variety of internal spaces are creatively encapsulated within 4 walls and 1 sloping roof bringing not just improved buildability, but also less external wall, highly simplified and repetitive detailing and a hugely positive impact on whole life costs. Two highly glazed elevations provide visual connectivity between inside and out, whilst two largely brick elevations provide added visual substance to what is a very simple yet elegant building.
The completed school will be an extremely efficient yet high quality solution, both from a briefing and an architectural point of view offering a compelling blend of tangible value and genuinely elegant expression.
