Max Dudler has designed a timeless partner piece to his previous building, Wilmersdorfer Strasse 60/61, which was completed in 2017: The façade design of the residential and commercial building on Wilmersdorfer Strasse 59, Berlin. With its sculptural façade and high-quality materials, the building is a contrasting yet harmonious addition to the neighbouring Schirmständerhaus, a listed building by Hans Simon dating back to 1957. Wilmersdorfer Strasse is the oldest pedestrian zone in Berlin, inviting visitors to shop and stroll. The street encompasses a varied collection of styles and periods, reflecting the eventful history of the capital city.

The abstract design of the newly finished façade on Wilmersdorfer Strasse 59 is characterised by a concise geometrical structure. The self-confident presence of the building is underlined by the material quality of the bricks, whitewashed with a grey plaster, into which the windows are deeply inset. The restrained architecture provides a stage to the hustle and bustle of the city while its reduced design brings an element of tranquillity to the heterogeneous surroundings and contributes to a city of varied architectural styles and periods. The city appears as an ensemble of individual buildings, each with its own character, merging to form a diverse streetscape.

New tenants already moved into the first floor at the end of 2020: TUMO is dedicated to providing free out-of-school education in the fields of digital technology and design to young adults. With the aim of honing young people’s digital skills in the long term, the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), with the support of the German government, has brought the concept, which originated in Armenia, to Germany for the first time.
