EMI MUSIC FRANCE HEADQUARTERS
2000 – 2005, PARIS, FRANCE
On a former industrial site in Paris’s 18th arrondissement, the scheme is composed of two small restored buildings and four new buildings, linked together at first-floor level by an enclosed corridor that overlooks a central garden. These new pavilions are inspired by traditional Parisian workshops; they are not very tall, are clad in terracotta and have pitched roofs, glazed on one side to take advantage of natural light.
Originally, each pavilion was intended to house a different music label (distinct companies, all part of the parent group). The pavilions had been designed to each have their own architectural identity within a common unifying design. Although the project underwent alterations in its final stages, due to a change in ownership, the inherent flexibility of the original design allowed the scheme to be adapted easily to meet new needs and demands.
More than just a place for business, this music ‘village’ is also a venue for music events, with its own concert hall and three recording studios.
